04 was the first year for the 3v in the 150's and the first year for the dreaded cam phasers, which made noise. If his noise is still there it is probably the phasers that are bad. Good news is you don't have to pull the front cover to change them, they make a set of foam wedges that you shove down in there between the chains and wedge the chain up against the tensioners so you can remove the phasers and not drop the chain.

Should have mentioned, the phasers are brand new. So was the chain and guides. Somehow the passenger side guide broke, and most of the pieces fell into the pan. So, that's something else that will need to be taken care of before we put it back together.

Do these phasers look like OEM pieces to you? They have Ford part numbers, but they look a bit "cheap" to me.

They look like factory ford parts. All modular engines have the powdered metal cam sprokets and phasers. and it looks kinda like cast. The phaser in the pic looks like a powdered metal gear.

OK, thanks. Most Ford part numbers I've seen are stamped into the part, not printed, so it threw me off. I know the guides and tensioners that I took out were not Ford pieces. Neither are the VCT sensors, unless Ford does not put a part number on those.

But for sure the phasers have a Ford part number on them - just kind of strange the way it was applied (to me, anyway).

Went to the Cleveland auto show today, mostly to see the new bullitt. Grabbed a few pics.





I'm not sure but I think this is the LeMans winner







And even tho it's not a ford, I had to get a pic. It's a 1932 Cadillac V-16 limo

I'm in love with that Bullit. What a sexy beast.

Say.... would you happen to know if the 2015+ still uses the 5 X 4.5 lug pattern?

Those pics of the GT are great too! And I can really appreciate a Caddy. I used to own one, and although it was a PITA to work on - it had some balls. It was a 94 STS with a Northstar.

Yes it does, all mustangs from 1994 to the new ones use the 5 x 4.5" pattern. Even the classics use that pattern, except the six cylinder ones. Ford used a 4 lug pattern on the classics with a straight six, v-8 cars got the 5 lug.

Are you eyeing up some s 550 wheels for your 89? American muscle has some knock offs in black or charcoal of the wheels I have, in 8.5" or 10" wide in 19 and 20"

That caddy is the more desirable of the v-16 models. The early ones were larger in displacement, had more power, were simpler and more reliable. Later on around 35 or 36 they brought out a smaller more complicated v-16 and they aren't worth as much.

What you're seeing there is about a million dollar car.
