Fold down rear drink holder disassembly

Is there an easy way to disassemble the rear fold down drink holder in my 2011 Ford Edge?
My issue is that the controlling plastic arm that make sure the front and back covers close at the same time has broken. (I'm not going to blame anyone but I rarely sit in the back) I imagine I could glue the black plastic piece together if I could get it apart easily.

Before I go out and make it worse does anyone have some advice, tips or tricks to get the plastic part out of the cloth rear arm rest?
