Question Sudden Total Power Failure While Driving?

I have detailed this problem under the windshield breakage post but am wondering is there is any experience or help for this problem out there?

I am talking total electrical failure while driving. 72 degrees, six lane freeway; without warning dash went dark, no lights, motor, signals, nothing! I expect there were no brake lights and this happened at 5:30 AM dark! Luckily we did not get hit.

Anyone have experience or fix for this syndrome? 2009 Flex Limited, 25,000 miles. My family is freaked and afraid to ride in the vehicle.
