I was out looking at an Escape to potentially replace my 2009 Focus when it croaks.

A S model with a 2.5 I-VCT and 6 speed auto was acceptable but it didn't have a trailer hitch. Checking the website shows I can't get a hitch with that combination.

I'm only planning to occasionally pull a light utility trailer I've pulled with a Saturn SL1 and a Focus. I could have an after market hitch put on or do it my self.

What I'm worried about is the transmission. The salesman could not tell me if the 6 speed auto in a S model has a torque converter. I'm not considering another focus due to the issues I read about with the DCT's. Can someone tell me if all trim levels of the 2017 Escape have a transmission with a torque converter and optionally if it is reliable as most automatic transmissions have been since I've been driving?

Thanks,

All escapes since the 2013 redesign have the 6F35 trans, it is a real auto trans with a torque converter. They use the same trans in the fusions also, along with the lincoln MKZ and the MKC.

BTW you mentioned you are avoiding the focus because of the DCT, well 2017 is the last year of this body style, the 2018's will be a whole new car. Given the trouble ford has had with the DCT, it is a good bet we will see something else in the 18's, maybe even a traditional auto trans like the 6f35

Thanks for the reply. The Escape is likely going be the next ride now that I know it has a real automatic transmisson. I live in snow country and the constant lowering of cars is making it more and more difficult to deal with winter storms or navigating two tracks in better weather.

That CAFE fuel mileage quest has put more and more people into vehicles they might not have otherwise purchased.

My old Ford Escort would go just about anywhere w/o dragging bottom.
