In. You can use the oil pan/pickup tube from the 95 when you pull it. You may have an issue using the 4.6 ECU, the 4.6 has two cams, and IIRC two cam sensors, one for each cam. Also, going boosted, as you know, you will need to tune it since it'll he OBD2, you can remove the auto trans with the tune...

I'm still having drivability issues with with the current setup, so I figured I would just complicate it [hihi]

Now on to the pictures.

Current state

Explorer block

Partial teardown

Distributorless electronics (maybe an intercooler)

GT40 heads

Foxbody rods and Speed Pro pistons

4.6 ECU

F150 lower intake (larger runnersand AIT in manifold)

COPs

You think it would be easier to stay OBDI? Or maybe I'll throw it all out and go carb lol. There's an F150 at Glisson's with a 4 barrel intake.

I'd go completely ex 5.0 ignition system. It will solve your dizzy clearance problem, solve your driveability issue, and has less components. When you get a tune (you know your getting one, its only a matter of time) it will be easier since you won't have mix-matched parts. I've been thinking of doing cop, but it would make mounting with headers difficult...

I can run coil packs with an OBDI setup. Maybe I should just do that, since it was my original plan. Just wish I knew what was causing my problems now so I'm not running into them again with the new motor.

That's why i suggest the ex system, its more advanced. As far as tuning you can use a wideband and tune it from there til you get a handheld...

Not really looking to spend several hundred in tuning again.

Let me weigh my options and see if I can figure out what my current problem is.

When you boost, you need to tune so you don't blow the motor, you know that. You can do basic tuning yourself with the wideband, adjusting fuel pressure, different injectors, and bigger maf/tb/air filter...

Basically what I had planned. Not pushing big boost......at least I'm saying that now....

That's a lie and we both know it. Boost is addictive, you had it, you know. I'm already boosting past 20 psi and I haven't even strapped the charger on yet...

So I picked up some lifters today since they were missing on my motor. Installed my cam and double roller timing chain. Also threw a coat of semi-gloss on the block.

Need to torque everything down, and drill and tap the heads for rocker studs.

Teaser

And I am going to try to use an Explorer 5.0 TB elbow if I have the firewall clearance.

Pulled out my Ex harness and labeled everything using the Mountaineer as a guide while I still have it. Guess I won't need the other half of the harness.

Got the other head drilled and tapped.

Threw some paint on the lower.

Also I forgot that I picked these up Saturday.

Yes it has both the ecu temp sensor and the gauge sensor. The plus is the air temp sensor is in the manifold as well. So the ecu will get a more accurate temp reading post blower.

Pushrods ordered and I picked up my torque wrench. Tried to torque my rods in so I can move to the top half, but after doing so the crank won't turn. Turns fine with them loose. Get to look into that tomorrow.

And I am fairly certain I blew a head gasket on the Mountaineer. Drove to work fine and most of the way home. Then about 1/2 mile from home the temp gauge started creeping up. Then it died and I pulled over. Gauge never got over 3/4 high. I let it cool and tried to start it. Nothing.

What a day.

Dustin, pull a main cap and read the bearings, if they are anything but standard (0.010, 0.020, 0.030, etc) that is your problem. If you have a set of calipers, measure the crank diameter and verify...
Check coolant and oil, if either is mixed, its the gasket...
