The 87th annual Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is set for this weekend, and race teams from around the country have traveled to Colorado Springs for the legendary race to the clouds. One of those teams is from Ford Racing, which has unveiled its duo of contenders for this year's event, a pair of Fiesta Rally Cars driven by two-time WRC champion Marcus Grönholm and four-time Swedish rally champ Andreas Eriksson. While the two drivers have a wealth of experience racing on dirt and gravel, it will be their inaugural trip up the famous mountain.

Both drivers and cars were unveiled to at Phil Long Ford in Colorado Springs yesterday, and have already completed a couple practice sessions with the 800 horsepower rally cars. You can check out dozens of photos from those sessions in the high-res gallery below, and watch the entertaining unveiling of the cars in the video after the jump.

This car is so amazing, I have watched videos on it and it looks ridiculously fast. To bad it did not come in 1st for its class, but it did do farely well.

You won't see any vehicles sliding around in the dirt up Pike's Peak soon, they are paving the road all the way to the top.
^^ BOOO ^^

Environmentalists cried that the constant grading was causing trees to be suffocated because the dirt is pushed over the side. So they decided to pave it. I believe it will be completely paved by 2012.
Well then still time to play in the dirt for them.

Their always crying about something and spoiling fun[:(]
It looks like they will not make the 2012 deadline. Last year, no paving was done because of the shortage and high price of the special asphalt needed to pave the road. Aslo, because of weather conditions, they are lucky if they can pave over one mile per season. They still have 8 1/2 miles to go. And the higher you get, the tougher it is to get machines and materials up there.
May have until 2017 or 2018 then, more time to enjoy the slides.
