Hey everyone,

I’ve been dealing with a frustrating issue on my 2018 Ford Explorer PIU (Police Interceptor Utility). The battery keeps draining overnight, and I can't figure out why. I've replaced the battery, and the alternator seems to be working fine, but something is still causing a drain. I've also checked to see if the lights or any accessories are staying on, but everything appears normal.

Has anyone else experienced this issue or have any ideas on what could be causing the battery to drain? I’m wondering if it could be a hidden electrical issue or a problem with one of the modules not shutting off properly. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

It sounds like your 2018 Ford Explorer PIU may have a parasitic draw, likely from a module that isn’t shutting off properly. Start by performing a parasitic draw test to identify the exact circuit causing the drain. Common culprits in police vehicles are aftermarket equipment or the Body Control Module (BCM) not entering sleep mode. If you identify the circuit, you can trace it to the faulty module or component. If the draw test isn’t possible, consider consulting a technician experienced with police vehicles, as they’ll be familiar with these unique issues.
